An individual who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer program which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the man went on to engage in the "treat game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the authorities again.

She stated Ruben then played the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
